JONESBORO,
Ark. – Arkansas
State pounded out 13 hits and took advantage of three Bradley errors to score
six unearned runs, completing an opening-weekend sweep of the 3-game series with
a 12-2 victory Sunday afternoon at Tomlinson Stadium.
Bradley designated hitter Greg
Partyka was 3-for-4 with an RBI, while outfielders Mike Tauchman (8 games
dating back to last season) and Max Murphy (7 games) both extended their
season-opening hitting streaks, but the Braves managed only one hit from the
bottom five spots in the batting order.
The Red Wolves (3-0) got all the
offense they needed in the first inning, taking advantage of two errors and
three walks to score six runs on just three hits against sophomore left-hander
David Koll (0-1). Koll settled in after
the rough first inning and did not allow another run in his 5.0 innings of
work.
Six Arkansas State pitchers held the
Bradley offense in check, though, limiting the Braves to two 8th-inning runs on
seven hits while striking out nine.
The Braves will return to action
with four games next weekend in Nashville, Tenn., beginning with a split
doubleheader Friday against Ball State (12 p.m.) and host Lipscomb (4 o'clock).
