JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Sophomore Seth Trolia (Mahomet, Ill./Seymour) is tied for eighth after shooting an opening-round 73 and the Bradley men's golf team is tied with tournament-host Butler for ninth after the first round of the Benbow Invitational Monday.
In the team's first action of the spring, Trolia missed tying his season-best round with a two-over par 73 to lead the Braves at the par-71 Jacksonville Beach Golf Club. He enters Tuesday's final round two shots off the individual lead.
Complete results were unavailable Monday evening. Sophomore Danny Masrin (Palatine, Ill./Jakarta International School) is two shots out of the top 20 after firing a 76, while freshman Garrett Cox (Mahomet, Ill./Seymour) is five shots behind Trolia at 78. Junior Daniel Young (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) carded an opening-round 81 and fellow junior Kyle Gunther (Dunlap, Ill./Peoria Christian) rounded out play for Bradley with an 83.
Florida Atlantic is first in the team standings after shooting a five-over par 289 in the opening round and holds a six-shot lead on second-place Bethune-Cookman (2nd - 295). Evansville finished the day in third at 296 and Savannah State is fourth at 297. Cleveland State rounded out the top five (298), while IUPUI and Northern Kentucky closed the day in a tie for sixth at 302.
Dayton is three shots ahead of Bradley in eighth (305), with the Braves and Butler tied at ninth (308). The Braves have a four-shot lead on in-state foe Eastern Illinois (11th -312) and eight shot advantage on Western Illinois (12th - 316). IPFW is 13th at 319 and Florida A&M completes the field in 14th (324).
Bradley closes out action at the Benbow Invitational Tuesday with one round of play beginning at 7:30 a.m.
