JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Sophomore Seth Trolia (Mahomet, Ill./Seymour) posted his second top-20 finish of the season, tying for 12th at the Benbow Invitational after a final round 75 Tuesday and helped the Bradley men's golf team to a 10th place finish in the squad's first tournament of the spring.
Bradley's top finisher in three of five tournaments this season, Trolia missed a top-10 finish by one stroke with a 36-hole score of 148 at the par-71 Jacksonville Beach Golf Club Tuesday. His final-round 75 was his team-leading 10th round in the 70's this year.
Fellow sophomore Danny Masrin (Palatine, Ill./Jakarta International School) shot a 79 in the final round to finish seven shots behind Trolia in a tie for 41st at 155 to help highlight play for the Braves.
Freshman Garrett Cox (Mahomet, Ill./Seymour) closed out play with an 83 to tie for 57th (161) and junior Kyle Gunther (Dunlap, Ill./Peoria Christian) tied for 64th in the field at 163, following a final round 80. Junior Daniel Young (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) completed the individual scoring for the Braves with a second-round 83 to tie for 67th at 164.
Bradley shot 317 Tuesday to slip into 10th in the final team standings (625). Florida Atlantic was nine-over par on the final day of play (293) and claimed the team title with a two-round total of 582. Bethune-Cookman was second in the standings at 586, while Northern Kentucky used a final round 289 to move into third (591).
Evansville followed in fourth at 592 and Cleveland State rounded out the top five at 595. IUPUI was two shots back in sixth (597), with Savannah State slipping from fourth to seventh (603) in the final standings. Dayton matched a first-round 305 in the second round to place eighth (610), while tournament-host Butler was ninth (621). Bradley trailed the Bulldogs by four shots in 10th and the Braves edged 11th-place IPFW (626) by one shot. In-state foes Western Illinois and Eastern Illinois tied for 12th at 631, with Florida A&M completing the field in 14th (638).
The Braves return to Florida next week for Spring Break, playing a dual against Yale Monday, March 18 in Lakeland Fla.
