CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla. – Sophomore Christie Lin (Calgary, Alberta/Sir John G Diefenbaker) is tied for second and the Bradley women's golf team leads after one round of play at the Cincinnati Spring Invitational Friday.
The Braves shot their second-lowest round of the season and lowest round of the spring with an opening round 302. BU holds a one-shot lead on Florida Southern for top team honors in the standings heading into Saturday's second round.
Lin shot a par-72 at the Plantation Inn Golf Resort Friday to lead the Braves and is tied for second in the individual standings, two shots behind individual leader Megan Kiley of Florida Southern, who shot a 70.
The freshmen duo of Danielle Lemek (Doniphan, Neb./Doniphan-Trumbull) and Allison Walsh (Mt. Prospect, Ill./Mt. Prospect) finished the day in a tie for 10th after carding opening-round 75's. Sophomore Thea Hedemann (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan/Walter Murray) and freshman Jenna Roadley (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Sturgeon Heights) are tied for 45th overall rounding out the team scoring for the Braves with opening round 80's.
Freshman Lindsey Levin (Chicago, Ill./The Latin School), who is in the field as an individual, is also tied for 45th after shooting an 80 Friday and junior Cassandra Marschall (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield/Wisconsin-Green Bay) shot an 86 to close the day tied for 88th.
Bradley's opening round 302 is tied for the 20th lowest round in school history. The Braves finished the day one shot better than second-place Florida Southern (303) and two shots ahead of third-place Cincinnati (304). Xavier is fourth in the standings at 306, with North Dakota State, Florida Gulf Coast and Seminole State finishing the day tied for fifth (307).
Daytona State is eighth after 18 holes at 310 and UAB is ninth overall at 311. Seton Hall will enter Saturday's second round in 10th at 314 with Florida Atlantic and Embry-Riddle one shot back in a tie for 11th (315). Rutgers followed in 13th (316) and Oakland is 14th (324) in the team standings. Texas Pan-American closed the day in 15th (334), while Fairleigh Dickinson (16th – 338) and Tampa (17th – 341) completed the field, respectively.
The Braves continue play at the Cincinnati Spring Invitational Saturday with one round of play, beginning at 7;30 a.m. (CDT).
