PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior pitcher Mackenzie Camp (Mapleton, Ill./Limestone) has been named the Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after helping the Bradley softball team to a sweep of Indiana State last week.
Camp went 1-0 with an impressive 1.08 ERA in two outings last week, throwing a complete game shutout in Saturday's 2-0 win against the Sycamores. In her two appearances, she struck out 10 batters and walked none, while holding Indiana State to a .174 batting average. Camp did not allow a base runner in the final four innings of her complete game, three-hit shutout Friday. Saturday, she retired the first 11 batters she faced in the series finale to run her streak to 23 consecutive batters without reaching base. Camp struck out six and walked none in six innings in the no decision. A family and consumer science major, Camp owns a 3.19 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Camp and the Braves play a three-game weekend series at Creighton, starting with a noon doubleheader Saturday in Omaha, Neb.
