ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Senior outfielder Mike Tauchman (Palatine, Ill./William Fremd) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week according to an announcement by the league office Wednesday.
Tauchman continued his torrid hitting pace by going 6-for-11 with three doubles during the weekend series versus Evansville. He started the Missouri Valley Conference opening series against the Purple Aces with a 1-for-2 effort with a hit by pitch Friday, before collecting two doubles in a 3-for-4 outing Saturday. He capped the weekend with a 2-for-5 showing Sunday in an 8-5 victory. A business management and administration major, Tauchman owns a 3.23 cumulative grade point average.
To qualify for Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.
The top hitter in the Missouri Valley Conference with a league-best .427 batting average, he has pushed his career-best hitting streak to 18 games after collecting a hit, three runs, two RBI and four stolen bases in Tuesday's victory against Eureka.
Tauchman and the Braves return to action Friday, opening a three-game series at Creighton with a 6 p.m. game in Omaha, Neb.
