PEORIA, Ill. – Freshman Danielle Lemek (Doniphan, Neb. (Doniphan-Trumbull) holds a six-shot lead on the field and the Bradley women's golf team has a one-shot advantage on second-place South Carolina-Upstate at the Bradley Invitational after two rounds of play Saturday.
The Braves carded the lowest opening-round with a 318, despite battling windy conditions at the par-72 WeaverRidge Golf Club and finished the day at 641 after a second-round 323. USC-Upstate rebounded from a first-round 328 to card the lowest round of the day (314) in the afternoon and will enter Sunday's final round one shot behind BU in second at 642. In-state foe Western Illinois is third in the team standings at 649.
Lemek's first-round par-72 was the lowest individual score of the day and she shot a second-round 76 to close the day at 148. She has a six shot on the field with USC-Upstate's Amanda Hall closing the day in second at 154.
Fellow freshman Jenna Roadley (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Sturgeon Heights) is 15 shots back of Lemek in a tie for ninth (163) after rounds of 82 and 81 and is six shots out of a tie for fourth.
Freshman Allison Walsh (Mt. Prospect, Ill./Mt. Prospect) finished the day on a strong note with a second-round 78 and is tied for 20th at 170. Sophomore Christie Lin (Calgary, Alberta/Sir John G Diefenbaker) is one shot out of the top 20, closing the day tied for 24th (171), after rounds of 83 and 88.
Bradley is down to four players in the lineup after sophomore Thea Hedemann (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan/Walter Murray) had to withdraw from the second round due to injury. Hedemann was tied for seventh in the individual standings after shooting an opening round 81.
Freshman Lindsey Levin (Chicago, Ill./The Latin School) fired a season-best 78 to help pace the Bradley-Red squad and is tied for 13th (165). Sophomore Cassandra Marschall (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield/Wisconsin-Green Bay) is six shots behind Levin in a tie for 29th (171), while the pair of sophomore Katarina Mangieri (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) and senior Lauren Niemiera (Orland Park, Ill./Marist) are both tied for 39th (186).
Bradley (641) will start Sunday's final round with a one-shot lead on second-place USC-Upstate (642) and eight shot edge on third-place Western Illinois (649). Missouri Valley Conference foe Northern Iowa is fourth at 654 with Indiana State following in fifth (655). Illinois-Chicago is sixth overall (691), while Western Illinois-Gold (7th – 696) and Bradley-Red (8th – 708) complete the field, respectively.
The Braves finish out the Bradley Invitational Sunday with one round beginning at 8:30 a.m. at WeaverRidge Golf Club.
