Box Score OMAHA, Neb. – Creighton left fielder Brad McKewon was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two runs batted in and Creighton (18-6, 5-1 MVC) completed a weekend sweep of Bradley (11-16, 1-5 MVC) with a 7-3 win Sunday afternoon at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha.
Bradley loaded the bases with one out in the top of the second, but managed only one run on a Brady Wilkin walk to score the game's first run. But as was the case throughout the weekend, Creighton had an immediate answer, pulling even in the bottom of the second, then going ahead, 3-1, on Alex Staehely's 2-run double in the bottom of the third.
The Braves closed to within 5-3 in the eighth inning. After Nolan Sponsler led off the eighth with a triple, Mike Tauchman extended his hitting streak to 21 games with an RBI single and he eventually came around to score on a Paul Solka base hit. With the tying run at the plate, Creighton reliever Bryan Sova got Braves catcher Austin Jarvis to pop out, then worked around a hit batsman in the ninth to earn his first save of the year.
Bradley will continue a 4-game road swing Tuesday by visiting Illinois-Chicago for a 7 p.m. non-conference tilt, then will welcome Wichita State for a 3-game weekend Valley series – Friday (6 p.m.), Saturday (2 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m.) – at Peoria Chiefs Stadium.
