CARBONDALE, Ill. – Senior Amy Angelos (Waukegan, Ill./Waukegan) had 17 kills, four aces, and five blocks to help Bradley rally for a 26-28, 10-25, 25-21, 25-18, 16-14 victory at Southern Illinois Friday. 

The Braves rallied from two sets down to pull out a five-set victory for the first time since Sept. 17, 2011 (vs. Southern Illinois) and pulled out a road win when trailing by two sets for the first time since rallying for a five-set victory at Indiana State on Sept. 10, 1999.

Angelos had 11 kills, four blocks and all four of her aces in the final three sets, while hitting .643 in the final three frames to help spark the Braves (8-3 overall, 2-0 MVC) to the victory.  Senior Lauren Zerante (Elmhurst, Ill./York) tallied a team-high 19 digs to become the 13th player in program history to reach 1,000 career digs.  Zerante passed Julie Penn (1,005 digs) for 13th in school history and now has 1,113 in her BU career.

The first set featured eight ties and one lead change, but Southern Illinois (6-9 overall, 1-2 MVC) broke up a 26-26 tie with a  Jessica Whitehead kill and Katie Baki ace to pull out the 28-26 win.

Bradley trailed 12-9 in the second set, when SIU scored four consecutive points to open a 13-1 Saluki run to end the set.  Southern Illinois had five aces and hit .320 in the 25-10 second-set victory.

The Braves appeared to be on the ropes in the third set trailing 21-18, before rallying for a 25-21 victory.  Freshman Rachel Jones (Champaign, Ill./Centennial), who made her first start of the season, sparked a 7-0 Bradley run with a kill.  Junior Madison Kamp (Orland Park, Ill./Chicago Christian) followed with a kill of her own and Angelos pulled BU even (21-21) with her fifth kill of the frame.  Zerante chased a Southern Illinois attack error with an ace and Angelos notched back-to-back blocks to close out a 25-21 Bradley win.

A potent Bradley offensive attack in the fourth set helped the Braves pull out a 25-18 win and force a deciding fifth set.  BU boasted a .429 attack percentage in the fourth frame and pulled away midway through to claim the victory.  The teams were knotted at 12-12 before a Kristi Chynoweth (Parkland, Fla./North Broward) kill and Angelos ace gave the Braves a 14-12 advantage.  Senior Alise Tupuritis (Des Plaines, Ill./Maine West) later added a pair of kills to push the BU lead to 20-16 and sophomore Jessie Tulacka (Westmont, Ill./Downers Grove North) added a pair of kills to help seal the victory and force a fifth set.

Bradley jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the fifth set, but had to rally to pull out the victory after Southern Illinois held match point at 14-13.  Chynoweth pulled the Braves even at 14-14 with her career-high 14th kill and a SIU attack error gave BU a 15-14 advantage.  Jones notched her eighth kill of the evening to close out the set for Bradley 16-14. 

Four BU players reached double figures in kills, paced by Angelos' team-high 17 kills.  She hit .448 and had six assists, four aces and five blocks to help highlight the win.  Tupuritis added 11 kills and 11 digs for her team-best fifth double-double of the year, while Chynoweth had a career-high 14 kills.  Zerante added 19 digs and sophomore setter Jessica Teel (San Antonio, Texas/Claudia Taylor Johnson) finished with 30 assists and 12 digs for her second double-double of the season.

Whitehead led three SIU players with 15 or more kills, matching Angelos with a match-high 17 kills.  Taylor Pippen and Elly Braaten each added 15 kills for the Salukis in the loss.

Bradley closes out a two-match MVC road swing Saturday with a 6 p.m. match at Evansville.
