Box Score PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior Catie O'Leary (Janesville, Wis./Parker/Wisconsin) scored a game-high 17 points and also tied for game-high honors with eight rebounds, but Bradley couldn't overcome a poor shooting night and 25 turnovers as Missouri State topped the Braves 85-56 Friday at Renaissance Coliseum.
Bradley (4-10 overall, 0-2 MVC) was without senior point guard Kelsey Budd (Prairie du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) for the second straight game after she suffered an injury midway through last Thursday's game at Southern Illinois. The Braves shot just 32.8 percent from the field Friday in their conference home opener and committed 25 turnovers in the setback to the Bears.
Both teams got off to slow starts offensively and Bradley held a 7-6 lead five minutes into the contest on a Kelly Frings (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) put-back hoop. Missouri State (6-7 overall, 1-1 MVC) answered with a 12-0 run over the next four minutes to go back in front 18-7 and the Bears held BU without a field goal for just over seven minutes. The Braves had cut the MSU lead to nine nearing the 10-minute mark of the first half at 18-9, before the Bears went on an 18-4 run to push the advantage to 36-13 with two minutes left in the period.
Bradley shot just 21 percent in the second half and Missouri State led 44-19 at the break. The Bears extended the lead to as many as 34 points after halftime and cruised to the 85-56 victory.
O'Leary scored 12 of her game-high 17 points in the second half and also pulled down eight rebounds in 32 minutes of action. Junior Michelle Young joined her in double figures with 12 points. Bradley shot 48 percent in the second half and made 13-of-15 free throw attempts in the final 20 minutes after opening the game 4-of-9 from the charity stripe in the first half.
Missouri State's bench outscored the Bradley reserves 39-4, with Katie Palmer scoring 16 points off the bench to lead the Bears. Bry Snow added 13 points, six boards, three blocks and four steals, while Kenzie Williams scored 11 points. Tyonna Snow was also in double figures with 10 points in 20 minutes.
Bradley closes out a two-game home stand Sunday with a 2 p.m. game against defending MVC regular-season co-champion Wichita State. Sunday will be Senior Appreciation Day at Renaissance Coliseum with all fans 60 years and older receiving 50 percent off the admission price ($4 per ticket).
