Box Score WICHITA, Kan. – The Bradley volleyball team closed out a three-match Missouri Valley Conference road swing with a 25-11, 25-19, 26-24 loss at pre-season league favorite Wichita State Saturday.
Sophomore Kelsey Cave (Solon, Iowa/Solon) finished with a team-high nine kills and senior Madison Kamp (Orland Park, Ill./Chicago Christian) added eight kills, while hitting .444 to help lead the Braves. Junior Lea Sack (Lincoln, Neb./Pius X) had 12 digs to help lead Bradley's defensive efforts as she moved within 31 digs of breaking into the top 30 in program history.
Abbie Lehman helped get Wichita State off to a strong start, notching six kills on six swings and added a pair of blocks to help power the Shockers to a 25-11 opening-set victory. Cave had five kills on six attacks in the first set for Bradley, but Lehman and the Shockers attacked at a blistering .636 clip to take the opener.
Bradley trailed 16-15 in the second set when Lehman took over for the Shockers. She recorded five of her six second-set kills in the closing stretch to help Wichita State take a two-sets-to-none lead with a 25-19 win.
The third set was close throughout and Bradley held a 23-22 lead after a Wichita State attack error, before the Shockers made a late push. Wichita State led 24-23 after a kill and block, but junior Cordelia Murphy (Marseilles, Ill./Marquette) pulled the Braves even at 24-24 with a kill. A BU attack error broke the tie and Wichita State closed out the set at 26-24 and completed the sweep on an Ashlyn Driskill kill.
Lehman was the only player in the match to reach double figures in kills, finishing with 15 kills on 15 attacks to go with her match-high five blocks to lead Wichita State. The Shockers hit .352 in the match as they stayed in fourth in the Valley standings with the win.
Bradley plays five of the last seven regular-season matches of the 2014 season at Renaissance Coliseum, opening the stretch Friday with a 7 p.m. contest against Southern Illinois.
