ST. LOUIS - Four members of the Bradley Soccer team earned Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete recognition, according to a vote of the league's seven sports information contacts announced Tuesday.
Brothers Andrew and Zach Kovacevic (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley H.S.) both landed on the 15-player MVC Scholar-Athlete first team, while junior defender Grant Bell (Little Falls, Minn./Little Falls H.S.) and sophomore goalkeeper Logan Ketterer (Racine, Wis./The Prairie School) both received honorable mention recognition.
Sporting a 3.94 cumulative grade point average, the third-best GPA among the 23 Valley Scholar-Athletes, Andrew Kovacevic is a third-year sophomore majoring in finance. He has played in 42 games during his first two seasons on the field, primarily in a defensive role, logging more than 2,400 minutes. Andrew Kovacevic received the 2014 MVC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award and earned a spot on the 2014 MVC Honor Roll, as well as the Bradley Athletic Director's Honor Roll in each of his first four semesters.
Boasting a 3.50 GPA as a health science major, Zach Kovacevic is a fifth-year senior, who has played in 57 games while helping the Braves to a pair of MVC Tournament titles and three NCAA Tournament appearances. Bradley's starting central defender the last two seasons, he also has contributed offensively by scoring eight points on three goals and two assists in 2013. One of his two game-winners included the penalty kick conversion in the 1-0 upset at #1 Connecticut. Like his younger brother, Zach Kovacevic received the 2014 MVC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award and earned a spot on the 2014 MVC Honor Roll, as well as the Bradley Athletic Director's Honor Roll in each of the last seven semesters.
Bell is a business and management administration with a 3.23 cumulative GPA. The third-year starting defender was a NSCAA All-Region third-team selection in 2013. In addition to his defensive work, Bell scored 13 points this season on four goals and five assists, pushing his career totals to 21 points on six goals and nine assists. He is a two-time All-MVC second team selection and was on the 2012 MVC All-Freshman Team. Bell has earned a spot on the Bradley Athletic Director's Honor Roll in three of his first four semesters.
After redshirting in 2012 and not playing in 2013 behind former all-conference keeper Brian Billings, Ketterer played his way into Bradley's starting keeper by mid-September this season. In his first season between the pipes, he finished with a 7-7 record, four shutouts, a 1.00 goals against average and a .800 saves percentage and twice was selected the MVC Defensive Player of the Week. Sporting a 3.50 cumulative GPA as an accounting major, Ketterer also was chosen the MVC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week Sept. 24, 2014. He earned a spot on the 2014 MVC Honor Roll and the Bradley Athletic Director's Honor Roll during each of his first four semeters.
