Bradley Basketball junior guard Warren Jones (Centralia, Ill./Sandoval H.S.) received a small consolation prize after learning his season would be interrupted by injury Monday. Bradley's leading scorer at 14.6 points per game, Jones was named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week Monday afternoon, hours after learning he would miss the next 4-6 weeks with a stress fracture in his right foot.

Jones, a first-year transfer from Southeastern Community College, averaged 20.0 points in the first two starts of his Bradley career last week. After coming off the bench in Bradley's first six games, he responded to his first start Tuesday against Central Michigan with 33 points, four rebounds, an assist, a blocked shot and a steal in the 84-73 win. The 33 points scored were the most-ever by a male player at Renaissance Coliseum, Bradley's five-year-old on-campus arena. He added seven points and a team-best three assists Saturday at Memphis, but experienced pain in his foot during the game against the Tigers.

After travelling to Manhattan, Kan., Sunday for Tuesday night's game at Kansas State, Jones had the injury examined Monday morning, when he was diagnosed with the stress fracture and placed in a protective walking boot.

Monday's news is the latest injury setback for the Braves this season: 2014 NJCAA Division I All-America point guard Tramique Sutherland has missed the first eight games with a fractured left ring finger suffered late in the preseason, while junior forward Mike Shaw has played through a sprained big toe after undergoing summer knee surgery. Freshman forward Josh Cunningham also had summer knee surgery and sophomore center Xzavier Taylor was sidelined early in the preseason with a stress fracture similar to the Jones injury.

A four-week recovery for Jones would put his earliest return to action Jan. 7 at #11 Wichita State, the third game of Bradley's MVC schedule, while the six-week recovery window extends to the seventh Valley game Jan. 21 at Southern Illinois.
