Box Score PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior Kelly Frings (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) had 17 points and fellow senior Alyson Spinas-Valainis (Davenport, Iowa/Assumption) added a career-high 16 points on 6-of-6 shooting off the bench, but Bradley couldn't keep pace with a hot-shooting Drake team which shot 55.6 percent from the field and connected for a Renaissance Coliseum record 15 three-pointers as the Bulldogs topped the Braves 94-71 Friday.
Drake (13-12 overall, 7-7 MVC) opened the game with a 9-0 run and never looked back, making five three's in the first nine minutes of the game and jumped out to a 29-7 lead less nearing the midway point of the first half. The Bulldogs extended the advantage to as many as 27 points in the first period and held a 45-23 halftime edge.
Bradley (6-18 overall, 2-10 MVC) shot just 30 percent in the first half and struggled to keep up with a Drake offense which shot a blistering 62.1 percent in the opening period.
The Braves warmed up in the second half, however, to shoot 59.3 percent, but were unable to make a dent in the Drake lead as the Bulldogs managed to shoot 50 percent in the second half and made 8-of-16 three-pointers in the final 20 minutes of play.
Frings scored 14 of her team-high 17 points in the second half, while Spinas-Valainis added 10 of her career-best 16 points after halftime. Sophomore Fantasia Vine (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) was also in double figures with 10 points.
Lizzy Wendell paced Drake with 25 points to go with seven assists. Kyndall Clark, the MVC's leading scorer, made 6-of-13 three-pointers to tie the Drake season record for three-point field goals and collected 20 points, six boards, six assists and four steals for the Bulldogs. Caitlin Ingle added 15 points and dished out 11 assists in 35 minutes of action.
Bradley closes out a three-game home stand Sunday with a 2 p.m. contest against Northern Iowa at Renaissance Coliseum.
