Box Score KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- A Bradley error in the second inning led to a pair of Ohio State runs and the Buckeyes went on to top the Braves 5-3 Friday afternoon to open play at the Citrus Classic.
Four of Bradley's (5-10 overall) seven hits on the day went for extra bases, including sophomore Kathryn Spenn's (Williamsville, Ill./Williamsvill) team-leading third home run of the year, but Olivia O'Reilly pitched two hitless innings in relief to earn the save for Ohio State as the Buckeyes topped the Braves 5-3.
Ohio State had runners at second and third with one out in the top of the second after a single and Bradley error when Melaina Sallfeld had a two-out, two-run single up the middle to give her squad a 2-0 lead.
A Buckeye error in the bottom half of the inning led to an unearned run for the Braves after junior Alyson Clemente (Murrieta, Calif./Murrieta Valley) reached on an error. Senior Alex Chandler (Needles, Calif./Needles) extended her hit streak to six consecutive games with a RBI double to right center to trim the OSU lead to 2-1.
After a walk and single to open the top half of the third for Ohio State, Evelyn Carrillo delivered a RBI double to center and Melanie Nichols pushed the Buckeyes advantage to 5-1 with a pinch-hit, two-run single.
Spenn ripped a two-out solo homer in the bottom of the third and senior Madeline Lynch-Crumrine (Sedro-Woolley, Wash./Sedro-Woolley) limited Ohio State to just one hit in the final four innings, but Bradley managed just one more run in the 5-3 setback.
Senior Brianne Joseph (Post Falls, Idaho/Post Falls) opened the bottom of the fifth with a double and senior Bailiegh Basham (Mattoon, Ill./Mattoon/Lake Land C.C.) followed with a single to put runners at the corners. Senior Marina Groenewegen (Surrey, British Columbia/Elgin Park Secondary/Southern Idaho) pulled the Braves within two runs at 5-3 with a sacrifice fly to center to plate Joseph.
Bradley couldn't push another run across in the fifth and a Clemente double to lead off the sixth was the only other hit for the Braves in the contest. Alex DiDomenico earned the victory for Ohio State to improve to 3-1 on the year, while O'Reilly earned her second save of the season for the Buckeyes.
Lynch-Crumrine dropped to 3-5 with the complete game loss. She struck out five and gave up just three earned runs in the loss.
