TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Bradley exploded for 13 runs on 14 hits to take the opening game of a doubleheader at Indiana State 13-3 in five innings, but the Sycamores recovered to limit the Braves to just five hits in the nightcap as BU fell in the second game 2-1 Friday afternoon at Price Field.

In the opener, Bradley (20-25 overall, 11-8 MVC) roughed up Indiana State (24-21 overall, 6-12 MVC) for 13 runs on 14 hits in just five inning en route to a 13-3 victory.  Six Braves had multi-hit games and eight individuals had at least two hits or two or more RBI in the convincing victory.  Bradley's 13 runs were the most scored by the Braves in a conference game since a 15-3 win at Wichita State on March 19, 2006.

Bradley wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, pushing five runs across in the top of the first after loading the bases with a walk, hit batter and single.  Junior Shannon King (San Jose, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) had a two-out single to center to drive in a pair and sophomore Kendall Duffy (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) drove in three more runs with a bases loaded double to left to stake starting pitcher Madeline Lynch-Crumrine (Sedro-Woolley, Wash./Sedro-Woolley) to a five-run lead before she threw her first pitch of the afternoon.

Indiana State left a total of three runners in scoring position in the first two innings, before Bradley broke the game open with four runs in the top of the fourth.  Junior Alyson Clemente (Murrieta, Calif./Murrieta Valley) followed back-to-back one-out singles with a three-run homer to right field as the Braves built an 8-0 lead.  Lynch-Crumrine added a solo homer of her own later in the inning to push the advantage to 9-0 through the top of the fourth.

The Sycamores scored a run on a wild pitch in the bottom half of the inning and added two more runs in the frame to pull within 9-3, but four more runs in the Bradley half of the fifth put the game out of reach.  After back-to-back two-out singles by Brianne Joseph (Post Falls, Idaho/Post Falls) and Mariah Cole (Springfield, Ill./Chatham Glenwood), Clemente walked to load the bases.

Senior Marina Groenewegen (Surrey, British Columbia/Elgin Park Secondary/Southern Idaho) drove in two runs with a single and one more run came across on an Indiana State error on the play to push the BU lead to 12-3.  Just for good measure, Lynch-Crumrine ripped a RBI single up the middle to plate Groenewegen and push the BU lead to double digits at 13-3.

Lynch-Crumrine (14-12) retired Indiana State in order in the bottom of the fifth to close out her team-leading 14th victory of the year to match her career high for wins.

In the nightcap, Bradley scored a run in the top of the first, but Indiana State answered back with a run of its own in the bottom half of the inning.  Joseph led off the game with a double and came around to score on a Lynch-Crumrine single as she drove in her third run of the afternoon to give the Braves the early 1-0 lead.

Indiana State's Morgan Allee led off the bottom of the first with a bunt single and stole second before moving to third on another Sycamore bunt single.  Allee came in to score on a groundout to the right side of the infield to pull Indiana State even at 1-1.

Erika Crissman led off the top of the fourth with a solo homer to give the Sycamores a 2-1 lead and the Braves managed just two hits off Indiana State starter Yvette Alvarez in the final three frames as she helped her squad split the doubleheader with a 2-1 victory.  The wins was Alvarez's (16-8) conference leading 16th of the year.

Bradley left a pair of runners on in the fifth and came up empty after a leadoff single in the sixth.  The Braves had just five hits off Alvarez, who struck out six BU hitters.  Freshman Jaelen Hull (Clifton, Ill./Bishop McNamara) was on the wrong end of the pitching duel for Bradley to drop to 4-12 on the season.  Hull walked none and gave up seven hits in the setback.

Bradley and Indiana State close out the three-game series Saturday with a single game at 11 a.m. (CDT) in Terre Haute, Ind.
