Bradley Basketball will face an old nemesis Dec. 9 when the Braves visit Big 12 Conference foe Kansas State at Bramlage Coliseum. The game against the Wildcats will be one of 13 games on Bradley's 2014-15 non-conference men's basketball schedule, which will be announced individually as dates are finalized and contracts completed.
The Braves are 2-2 all time against Kansas State in a series that dates back to Bradley's 47-41 win March 1, 1947 at the Peoria Armory. Bradley added a 68-64 win against Big Eight Conference Player of the Year Lon Kruger's Wildcats squad in the opening round of the 1974 Commissioner's Classic in St. Louis. The Wildcats have won the last two series meetings, sweeping a two-year, home-and-home series in 1995 and 1996. In Bradley's only previous visit to Bramlage Coliseum, the Wildcats pulled out a 75-72 overtime decision Nov. 25, 1995.
Though the series between the two schools includes only four games, Kansas State head coach Bruce Weber has a more extensive history against Bradley. Weber, who previously coached at Southern Illinois and Illinois, will be facing the Braves as a head coach of third program. Bradley was 7-5 against Weber's Southern Illinois squads from 1998-2003 and the Braves split a pair of neutral-site games against Weber's Illinois teams, dropping a 75-71 score in the 2006 Chicago Invitational before earning a 72-68 win in the 2009 Las Vegas Invitational.
While Weber faces Bradley as the head coach of a third program, he also will face a third Braves head coach in fourth-year Bradley head coach Geno Ford. Ford is 0-2 all-time in head-to-head matchups against Weber, twice falling to Illinois during his three-year stint as Kent State's head coach.
Bradley is 37-25 all-time against the current Big 12 Conference membership, including a 7-10 road record against the current league membership. The Braves have dropped three straight against the current Big 12 lineup since a 65-56 home win against Iowa State Nov. 14, 2007. Ironically, that win against the Cyclones also came against a three-opponent head coach - Greg McDermott, the current Creighton head coach who was in his second year at Iowa State, following a 5-year run as Northern Iowa's head coach.
