PEORIA, Ill. -- The Bradley men's golf team opened the fall schedule with three tournaments in a 14-day span, but is coming off a week off from competition heading into the 2014 Badger Invitational in Madison, Wis., Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
The Braves finished in the top half of each of their last two outings, including the rain-shortened Weibring Intercollegiate in Normal, Ill., back on Sept. 14 in the team's last tournament. After the busy stretch to open the fall slate, Bradley will conclude the fall schedule with two tournaments in a 10-day stretch, starting with the Badger Invitational.
The 54-hole Badger Invitational will be played at the par-72 University Ridge Golf Course with the teams playing one round each day. Sunday and Monday's rounds will feature tee times starting at 9 a.m. with the tournament wrapping up Tuesday with a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start. BradleyBraves.com will provide a link to live scoring for all three rounds.
In addition to tournament host Wisconsin, the Badger Invitational field features Big Ten Conference members Maryland and Rutgers along with a pair of Big 12 Conference foes in Iowa State and Kansas. Missouri Valley Conference rivals Drake and Illinois State join the Braves in the 14-team field, which also includes Bowling Green, Charleston Southern, Marquette, Sam Houston State, Toledo and USC Upstate. Six of the 14 teams in the field are ranked in Golfweek.com's top 100.
Bradley tied for sixth at the Weibring Intercollegiate on Sept. 14 in the team's last outing and has shot 300 or lower in four consecutive rounds.
Junior Lyle Burns (Mahomet, Ill./Seymour/Parkland C.C.) has fired a 78 or better in all eight rounds this year and is tied for the team lead with a 74.00 stroke average. Burns has carded a 73 or lower in four consecutive rounds (70.75 per round) and matched a school-record with a 66 at the Derek Dolenc Invitational in Edwardsville, Ill.
Senior Danny Masrin (Palatine, Ill./Jakarta International) is tied with Burns at 74.00 per round for the lowest average on the team and has carded 19 consecutive sub-80 rounds dating back to last season. Masrin has placed in the top 20 in each of his last six tournaments and needs three rounds in the 70's or better to move into a tie with former teammate Daniel Young for 10th in school history with 74 career sub-80 rounds.
Fellow senior Seth Trolia (Mahomet, Ill./Seymour) is also poised to move up the career charts. Currently fifth in school history with 81 career sub-80 rounds, Trolia needs three rounds in the 70's or better to move into sole possession of third in school history. Warren Molitor (83) and Coby Thompson (82) are third and fourth, respectively, in career sub-80 outings at Bradley.
The Bradley men's golf team will wrap up its fall schedule Oct. 6 & 7 at the Butler Fall Invitational in Indianapolis, Ind.
