Box Score PEORIA, Ill. -- Freshman Erica Haslag (Jefferson City, Mo./Helias Catholic) had 15 kills and season-best 11 digs for her first career double-double and senior Lea Sack (Lincoln, Neb./Pius X) had a match-high 30 digs, but Drake held off Bradley 25-17, 25-23, 22-25, 25-16 in Missouri Valley Conference volleyball action at Renaissance Coliseum Tuesday afternoon.
Haslag had the most kills by a Bradley player since she had a season-best 24 against Southeast Missouri State on Sept. 18 and also added a season-high 11 digs in addition to two aces and three blocks to help lead Bradley (5-14 overall, 0-7 MVC). Freshman Allison Turner (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) added 10 kills of her own to help pace the Braves.
Senior Jessica Teel (San Antonio, Texas/Claudia Taylor Johnson) turned in her fourth double-double of the year with 23 assists and 11 digs. Sack finished one dig shot of matching a career-best with 30 digs. She moved up two spots on Bradley's career digs into ninth at 1,182 as she passed Amelie Rodrigue (1,164 digs) and Blythe Zajakowski (1,175 digs).
Drake (13-12 overall, 4-4 MVC) led from wire to wire in the first set, jumping out to 6-1 advantage. The Braves trailed 8-6 when the Bulldogs took control with a 9-2 spurt to go ahead 17-8. Drake hit .353 in the opening set and cruised to a 25-17 victory.
Bradley forced as many Drake attack errors as the Bulldogs had kills in the second set and the Braves were on the verge of pulling even in the match after building a 22-18 advantage. Drake answered with six consecutive points, however, as Kyla Inderski gave the Bulldogs set point at 24-22 with one of her three third-set aces to cap a 6-0 run. Haslag had a kill, her seventh of the frame, to pull Bradley within a point at 24-23, but a Bradley service error gave the Bulldogs the set 25-23.
The third set was close throughout with neither squad holding a lead of more than three points. Sophomore Jamie Livaudais (Fenton, Mo./Rockwood Summit) had a kill and block to help the Braves build a 23-20 advantage. Drake came back with two points of their own, before the fourth kill of the set by Livaudais set up set-point for Bradley at 24-22. Haslag capped a 25-22 win for the Braves with her 10th kill of the contest as Bradley forced a fourth set.
Drake seized control of the fourth set with 10 consecutive points to open a 13-1 run which put the Bulldogs out in front 15-4. The Braves got no closer than six points down the stretch as Drake closed out the match with a 25-16 win in the fourth.
Grace Schofield led Drake with 15 kills to tie Haslag for match-high honors and Inderski added 14 kills and 14 digs while tallying four aces for the Bulldogs. Chandelle Davidson had 20 assists and 11 digs and Michelle Thommi notched 22 digs for Drake.
Bradley opens a three-match road swing Friday with a 7 p.m. match at pre-season league favorite Wichita State.
