Box Score CHICAGO, Ill. – Freshman Erica Haslag (Jefferson City, Mo./Helias Catholic) led Bradley with seven kills, eight digs and two aces, but Loyola hit .363 as a team as the Ramblers topped the Braves 25-16, 25-22, 25-22 Saturday afternoon at Gentile Arena.
Bradley wrapped up a three-match road swing and kicked off the second half of the Missouri Valley Conference schedule with Saturday's setback against Loyola.
Haslag was one of five Braves to tally more than five kills, tying junior Kelsey Cave (Solon, Iowa/Solon) for team-high honors with seven kills. Cave had seven kills with no errors on 18 swings for a .389 hitting percentage, while senior Cordelia Murphy (Marseilles, Ill./Marquette) attacked at a .556 clip and added six kills of her own to help pace Bradley offensively.
In the opening set, an Abby Ihrke (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) ace pulled Bradley within three points at 14-11. Loyola answered with back-to-back points to open a 6-1 spurt capped by consecutive kills by Gabi Maciagowski as the Ramblers built a 20-12 advantage. Loyola, which hit .360 in the set, went on to take the first frame 25-16.
The Ramblers took control of what was a one-point contest (9-8) in the second with three straight points and Loyola was able to stretch the lead out to as many as seven points at 19-12. Cave had two kills as Bradley trimmed the deficit to three points 22-19 and the Braves pulled within two at 24-22 after holding off a set point. Amanda Cushen closed out a 25-22 Rambler win, however, with a kill as she helped her team hit .406 in the set.
Bradley led for most of the third set and the Braves matched their largest lead of the stanza at 20-16 on a Loyola attack error. Haslag followed back-to-back Rambler points with her seventh kill of the contest, but Loyola ran off five consecutive points to go in front 23-21. Morgan Reardon had a kill and ace during the spurt, which Cave put an end to with a kill to cut the Loyola lead to 23-22. Cushen found the floor with a kill to give the Ramblers match point (24-22) and Maureen Carls added a kill of her own to give the Ramblers a 25-22 victory.
Reardon collected 12 of her match-high 13 kills in the final two sets to pace Loyola offensively. Maciagowski added 11 kills of her own as the duo helped Loyola hit .363 as a team.
Bradley opens a two-match home stand Friday with a 7 p.m. match against Evansville at Renaissance Coliseum.
