ROCKFORD, IL - Junior Ariel Dechter moved into a tie for second place on Bradley's all-time singles victories list by completing a perfect run through the ITA Regional 2 tournament with a fourth-round win Sunday at Boylan Tennis Center.
By earning a 6-1, 3-6, 6-0 win against Marquette's Courtney Hebard, Dechter finished the ITA Regional 2 tournament with a 4-0 singles record in A Flight Singles, an effort that improved her career mark in two-plus seasons to 54-32. Dechter is tied for second with Cindy Schneider (1984-88) on Bradley's career singles wins list, trailing only the 73 wins by Teri Chan from 2003-07.
Dechter was one of five Braves to finish the final tournament of the fall season with a victory. Freshman Malini Wijesinghe and sophomore Ashley Thai both earned B Flight Singles wins in Sunday's final round to finish the weekend with 3-1 records. Wijesinghe turned in a 6-2, 7-5 win against Green Bay's Stephanie Londre, while Thai rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Green Bay's Maria Neff. With her three weekend wins, Thai cracked Bradley's career singles victories Top 10 list and now sits alone in ninth with 44 career wins.
In C Flight Singles, senior Irinka Toidze pulled out a 3-set win against Northern Illinois' Evelyn Youel (6-4, 3-6, 6-0) and freshman Julie Martin rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win against Green Bay's Noel Peck. Toidze, Martin and freshman Lindsay Haight all finished with 2-2 records in C Flight.
The duo of Alexa Brandt and Wijesinghe stepped up from B Flight Doubles to complete their weekend action with an A Flight match Sunday and the Bradley duo came through with a 6-2 win against the Wisconsin tandem of Caroline Hall/Nathalie Joanlanne. The Bradley pairing of Alejandra de Lasa/Thai also earned a final-round win in A Flight Doubles Sunday, a 6-4 victory against Green Bay's Chiara Berg/Olivia Headford.
In Bradley's final outing of the fall tournament season, the Braves combined for a 19-12 singles record and a 6-10 doubles ledger at the ITA Regional 2. Bradley will not play again until opening the dual match season Jan. 23 at Missouri.
