Box Score PEORIA, Ill. -- Missouri State used an efficient attack, hitting .381 as a team behind a match-high 23 kills from Lily Johnson to top Bradley 25-18, 25-17, 25-16 Friday at Renaissance Coliseum. Senior Lea Sack (Lincoln, Neb./Pius X) had a match-high 13 digs to lead the Braves as she reached 1,300 career digs in the setback.
Missouri State jumped out to an early 4-1 lead in the first set and the Bears hit .471 in the frame. Johnson had seven of her 23 kills in the opener as she helped power MSU to a 25-18 victory.
In the second set, Bradley was within striking distance at 14-13 after a Missouri State attack error. The Bears answered with three consecutive points to open a 7-1 run, however, which was capped by back-to-back kills by Ashley Ophoven. Missouri State went on to take the second 25-17.
Sophomore Jamie Livaudais (Fenton, Mo./Rockwood Summit) notched four of her team-best seven kills in the third set to lead the Braves. Bradley trailed 17-15 after a Cordelia Murphy (Marseilles, Ill./Marquette) kill, but Johnson had four consecutive kills of her own to extend the Missouri State lead to 21-15. Another Murphy kill cut the Bears' advantage to 21-16, before Johnson sandwiched two more kills around a pair of Bradley errors as Missouri State completed the sweep with a 25-16 win. Johnson had 11 of her 23 kills in the final set.
Livaudais finished with seven kills and no errors for a .412 attack percentage to lead Bradley. Freshman Erica Haslag (Jefferson City, Mo./Helias Catholic) added six kills and four digs as she became the first freshman in school history with 250 kills, 22 aces, 125 digs and 35 or more blocks. Haslag also pushed her season kill total into sixth among Bradley freshman marks and she now needs 14 kills to move into the top five.
Sack led Bradley defensively with 13 digs as she notched her 1,300th career dig late in the third set. She enters the final three matches of her Bradley career needing 30 digs to pass Samantha Hardwick for fifth in program history.
Johnson had 23 kills and 12 digs to pace Missouri State, while attacking at a .475 clip.
The Braves close out the home portion of the 2015 schedule Saturday with a 7 p.m. match against league-leading Wichita State at Renaissance Coliseum. Sack, Murphy and fellow senior Jessica Teel (San Antonio, Texas/Claudia Taylor Johnson) will be recognized prior to the contest.
