Box Score PEORIA, Ill. -- Freshman Erica Haslag (Jefferson City, Mo./Helias Catholic) had a match-high 13 kills, but league-leading Wichita State hit .412 as a team and tallied eight blocks as the Shockers topped Bradley 25-16, 25-18, 25-10 Saturday night in Missouri Valley Conference volleyball action at Renaissance Coliseum.
Haslag's 13 kills pushed her season total to a team-best 278 as she moved into a tie for fifth among Bradley freshman totals. Junior Kayla Rymer (New Berlin, Wis./Catholic Memorial) led the defensive effort for the Braves with 11 digs.
Wichita State got off to a hot start, hitting a blistering .583 in the opening set. Bradley trailed 9-6 following a Haslag kill, but the Shockers answered with four consecutive points and used a 6-1 spurt to build a 15-7 advantage. Wichita State extended the lead to as many as 11 points en route to a 25-16 win.
Haslag had seven of her 13 kills in the second set and the Braves were within striking distance at 18-14 after sophomore Afton Sobasky (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran) found the floor with one of her three kills. Wichita State's Emily Hiebert had an assist, ace and kill as the Shockers grabbed a 21-14 advantage, however, and Wichita State went to take the second set 25-18.
In the third set, Wichita State took control with a 7-1 spurt which included another Hiebert ace to go in front 13-5. The Shockers collected four of their eight blocks in the third and forced nine Bradley attack errors in the frame as they closed out the match with a 25-10 victory.
Sophomore Jamie Livaudais (Fenton, Mo./Rockwood Summit) added eight kills to help lead Bradley offensively. Senior Lea Sack (Lincoln, Neb./Pius X) had nine digs in the final home match of her career. She and fellow seniors Cordelia Murphy (Marseilles, Ill./Marquette) and Jessica Teel (San Antonio, Texas/Claudia Taylor Johnson) were recognized in a pre-match ceremony.
Mikaela Raudsepp was one of five Wichita State players to tally five or more kills, finishing with a team-best 10 kills. Hiebert helped pace the Shockers with five kills on six attacks, 29 assists, three aces and six digs.
Bradley returns to action Friday, playing a 7 p.m. contest at Northern Iowa.
