Box Score BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Bradley led Bowling Green 50-47 with just under nine minutes to go, but the Falcons took advantage of an eight-minute scoring drought to top the Braves 66-53 Sunday afternoon at the Stroh Center.
Freshman Gabby Green (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) had a game-high 17 points, while fellow freshman Emily Eshoo (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) added 11 points as the pair made 10-for-22 from the field and combined for 28 of Bradley's 53 points.
The Braves (1-1 overall) had their most three-pointers (10) since Feb. 8, 2013, connecting on 10-of-32 three-point attempts (31.3 percent), but made just 8-of-34 inside the arc. Bradley committed just 10 turnovers for the team's fewest turnovers in a road game since March 1, 2012 at Wichita State (9).
Bowling Green (2-0 overall) scored 32 points in the paint and outrebounded the Braves 55-31 as the Falcons kept Bradley from opening a season with back-to-back road wins for the first time since 2001-02.
Bradley got off to a low start, missing its first eight shots from the field, but despite a 1-for-13 shooting start to the contest the Braves trailed just 13-8 after the opening 10 minutes.
Green had eight points and two assists in the second quarter as Bradley trailed 29-24 heading into halftime.
In the third quarter, Green knocked down a trio of three-pointers and also dished out an assist in the frame to help Bradley go in front. A Green three with eight minutes left in the third gave the Braves their first lead of the day at 32-31 and her third three later in the third quarter broke a tie to put Bradley ahead 40-37 nearing the five-minute mark of the period.
Junior Whitney Tinjum (Stacy, Minn./Chisago Lakes/Washington State) knocked down Bradley's fifth three-pointer of the third quarter in the closing seconds as the Braves took a 47-44 advantage into the fourth quarter.
Sophomore Tamya Sims (Milwaukee, Wis./Oak Creek) put Bradley ahead 50-47 with a three-point play with just inside of nine minutes to play. The Sims' basket was the only points for the Braves in the fourth quarter until the closing minute, however, with Bowling Green using a 16-0 run to take control.
Bradley missed nine consecutive shots and went 0-for-4 from the free throw during the drought, which allowed the Falcons to grab a 63-50 lead before an Eshoo three-point play with 34 second to play. Bowling Green scored 19 of the final 22 points of the contest to top Bradley 66-53.
Five different Braves made a three-pointer with Green making 4-of-8 from the beyond the arc. She finished with a game-high 17 points and also dished out four assists to help lead Bradley.
Sydney Lambert led Bowling Green with 14 points to pace four Falcons in double figures. Erica Donovan added 13 points, while Lauren Tibbs had a double-double with 12 points, 12 boards and four blocks. Carly Santoro scored 10 points off the bench in eight minutes, connecting on 2-of-3 three-pointers.
Bradley will face 18th-ranked Oklahoma in the 2015-16 home opener next Sunday in a 2 p.m. contest at Renaissance Coliseum.
