PEORIA, Ill. -- Junior pitcher Brent Stong (Andover, Minn./Andover) has been named the Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week after helping the Bradley baseball team complete a weekend sweep at McNeese State.
Stong pitched eight shutout innings in Sunday's 5-0 victory at McNeese State, allowing just four hits and striking out four to earn his first victory of the year. Stong's effort helped the Braves post their third consecutive shutout, marking the first time Bradley had three straight shutouts since March 1993. A finance major, Stong owns a 3.81 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Stong and the Bradley baseball team are scheduled to open a three-game series at Southeast Missouri State Friday at 3 p.m.
