Box Score PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior Michelle Young (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury) scored a team-high 14 points to pace three Bradley players in double figures, but the Braves couldn't overcome 27 turnovers as Indiana State posted a 65-55 victory Friday night at Renaissance Coliseum.
Both squads got off to strong starts offensively with Indiana State holding a 24-23 edge 11:30 minutes into the contest after a Tamya Sims (Milwaukee, Wis./Oak Creek) layup. Bradley, which shot 42.9 percent in the first half, trailed 31-27 at the break.
The Sycamores opened the second half with an 8-2 run to extend the lead to 14 points (43-29) nearing the 14-minute mark.
Bradley trailed 57-45 with 3:30 left to play after a Racheal Mahan layup when the Braves made a push. Young had a breakaway layup after a Sims steal and junior Fantasia Vine (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) made a pair of free throws with 2:17 to play.
Mahan's basket at the 3:30 mark was the final hoop of the night for the Sycamores as a pair of Whitney Tinjum (Stacy, Minn./Chisago Lakes/Washington State) free throws with 1:30 on the clock cut the Indiana State lead to 57-51.
Indiana State made 8-of-10 free throws in the final 90 seconds and Bradley made just one basket during that same span as the Sycamores closed out the 65-55 road victory.
Young's team-best 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting moved her into a tie with Andrea McAlllister for 17th in career scoring at Bradley with 980 career points. She also moved into a tie for 10th in career made free throws on The Hilltop to tie Jenn Jolley with 253 career made free throws.
Tinjum had 10 points and a team-best seven rebounds to help Bradley to a 44-31 rebounding advantage. Vine added 10 points of her own to go with six boards, while Sims finished with eight points, six rebounds, one block and two steals for the Braves.
Indiana State scored 24 points off Bradley's 27 turnovers. Mahan led the Sycamores with 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting and also snagged a game-high eight rebounds to lead her squad.
