ST. LOUIS - For the second time this season, Bradley point guard Tramique Sutherland (Toronto, Ontario/Fr. Henry Carr Catholic Secondary) is the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week, according to an announcement from the league office Monday afternoon.
A first-year junior transfer from Hill College, Sutherland averaged 18.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists, while committing just one turnover in 76 minutes, as the Braves split a pair of 3-point decision last week. In Bradley's first game of the week, Sutherland scored a game-high 18 points and added five rebounds, two assists and no turnovers in Wednesday's 62-59 loss to #16 Wichita State. The 5-foot-10 point guard again posted 18 points, five rebounds and two assists in Saturday's 56-53 win at Evansville and he scored eight of Bradley's final 10 points after the Braves rallied from a 17-point second-half deficit.
After missing the season's first nine games with a fractured left ring finger, Sutherland now is Bradley's second-leading scorer by averaging 11.9 points per game. He was first named the MVC Newcomer of the Week Dec. 30.
Bradley will return to action Wednesday when the Braves visit Drake for a 7:05 p.m. at the Drake Knapp Center. The Braves will return home to host Loyola Chicago Feb. 15 (1 p.m.) at Carver Arena.
