PINEHURST, N.C. – Senior Seth Trolia (Mahomet, Ill./Seymour) is tied for fifth after shooting a four-over par 75 Friday and the Bradley men's golf team is fifth in the team standings with a first-round 315 on the opening day of play at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate.
Trolia is six shots behind Belmont's Ashton Van Horne (69) for the individual lead at the par-71 No. 8 Pinehurst golf course after an opening-round 75. His first round 75 was his 91st career sub-80 round, which moved him into second in school history.
Junior Lyle Burns (Mahomet, Ill./Seymour/Parkland C.C.) is two shots back of Trolia in a tie for 14th after a 77 Friday. Senior Danny Masrin (Palatine, Ill./Jakarta International School) tied the second longest streak of consecutive sub-80 rounds with his 29th straight round in the 70's or better. Masrin, who is tied for 19th at 79 in the field, matched Josh Brown for the second longest streak of sub-80 rounds in school history. Brown had 29 straight rounds in the 70's or better during the 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons.
Junior Garrett Cox Mahomet, Ill./Seymour) is tied for 48th after a first-round 84, while freshman Matthew Specht (Munster, Ind./Munster) rounded out the team scoring for the Braves with a 90 and is tie for 60th overall. Sophomore Bobby Jacobs (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) is in the field as an individual and enters Saturday's second round tied for 53rd after carding an 85.
Belmont shot a 297 and has an eight-team shot on the field, while Abilene Christian is second at 305. Dayton is 14 shots behind Belmont in third 311 and William & Mary sits in fourth (313) after Friday's action.
Bradley is four shots out of the third in fifth at 315 and the Braves have a one-shot lead on sixth-place Marshall (316). In-state foe Western Illinois is seventh overall at 323, three shots ahead of eighth-place California (PA) at 326. Missouri Valley Conference rival Loyola is ninth in the team standings (327) with Morehead State (10th – 331) and Wisconsin Lutheran (11th – 334) rounding out the field.
