ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Senior outfielder Isaac Smith (Richmond, Ky./Madison Central) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon after helping the Bradley baseball take two of three games at Mercer last weekend.
Smith was 8-for-11 (.727) with a double, two homers, seven RBI and five runs scored in the weekend series in Macon, Ga. He also recorded a pair of outfield assists. Smith was 3-for-4 with a double, three runs and one RBI to help Bradley take the series opener 8-2. On Saturday, he was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer. In Sunday's series finale, Smith moved up to the No. 2 spot in the lineup and was 3-for-4 with a homer, four RBI and one run scored to help highlight an 8-5 victory. A finance major, Smith owns a 3.51 cumulative grade point average
To qualify for Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week honors, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
Smith and the Bradley baseball team (15-3 overall) will open a three-game series at North Florida Friday at 5 p.m. in Jacksonville, Fla.
