PEORIA, Ill. - Alexa Brandt and Ariel Dechter both went 2-0 in combined singles and doubles action as Bradley (8-4) cruised to a 5-2 women's tennis dual match win against Chicago State (2-12) Friday afternoon at Clubs at River City.
Chicago State competed short-handed, conceding the No. 6 singles point, as well as the No. 3 doubles position. The Braves took advantage, securing the doubles point when Dechter and Irinka Toidze rolled to an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles. Brandt and Ashley Thai made it a doubles sweep with an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles.
The Braves quickly secured the match as Elizabeth Przystawski won by default at No. 6 singles for a 2-0 lead. Brandt earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles and Dechter tacked on a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles for the deciding fourth point as the Braves snapped a 3-match losing series losing streak to the Cougars. Freshman Aimee Manfredo scored Bradley's fifth point with a 3-set win at No. 3 singles.
Bradley improved to 5-0 at home and has won five straight home duals for the first time since 1997-98, when the Braves downed four non-Division I programs during a season-opening 6-match home winning streak. Bradley's tennis record book does not indicate a previous 5-match home winning streak against NCAA Division I competition.
The Braves will put their home streak on the line Saturday against an IPFW squad that will bring a 10-5 record to Peoria. Saturday's match is slated for a 1 p.m. start at Clubs at River City.
