PEORIA, Ill. -- Junior runner Emily Delvo (Springfield, Ill./Sacred Heart Griffin) has been named the Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week after posting the fastest 5,000 meter time in the Missouri Valley Conference this season at last week's Stanford Invitational.
Delvo made her collegiate debut in the outdoor 5,000 meters Friday in Stanford, Calif., and posted the best time in the event in the MVC this season. She took 13th in her heat at the Stanford Invitational with a time of 16:21.65, which ranks second in school history behind Mary Ellen Hill's 1998 school record. Hill, who set a Valley record in the 5,000 meters in 1998, went on to run at the NCAA Outdoor Championship that same year. A health science major, Delvo owns a 3.54 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Delvo and the Bradley track & field teams are scheduled to be back in action Saturday at the Lee Calhoun Memorial in Macomb, Ill.
