CHICAGO - Bradley's 10 singles players combined for a 7-3 record during the opening round of the Chicago State Cougar Invitational.
Bradley's five newcomers combined for a 4-1 record Friday to pace the Braves. Alejanda de Lasa (Green Flight), Emma Sodergren (Green), Malini Wijesinghe (White) and Lindsay Haight (Grey) all earned first-round wins in their respective flights Friday to start their Bradley careers, while Julie Martin suffered a play-in round loss in the Black Flight.
Among Bradley's five returning players, Ariel Dechter (Green), Aimee Manfredo (White) and Irinka Toidze (Black) all advanced into the winners side of their respective brackets. Alexa Brandt (Green) and Ashley Thai (White) both suffered first-round losses.
The Cougar Invitational will continue at 9 a.m. Saturday with the first round of doubles play with a hopeful move to the outdoor setting of the CSU Tennis Courts for the second round of singles play in the afternoon. Final round action in singles and doubles will be played Sunday.
