Box Score PEORIA, Ill. -- Freshman Allison Turner (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) collected a match-high 13 kills to lead Bradley, but Northern Iowa limited the Braves to a .107 hitting percentage and used a balanced attack to post a 25-20, 25-18, 25-19 victory at Renaissance Coliseum Tuesday afternoon.
Bradley (5-9 overall, 0-2 MVC) wrapped up a season-long, five-match home stand with the setback. Joining Turner in double figures in kills was fellow freshman Erica Haslag (Jefferson City, Mo./Helias Catholic) with 10 kills. Senior Lea Sack (Lincoln, Neb./Pius X) and freshman Abby Ihrke (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) each collected 12 digs to help highlight the defensive effort for the Braves.
Northern Iowa (9-7 overall, 3-0 MVC) held a 19-16 lead in the opener when Lindsey Schulz found the floor with one of five first-set kills to spark a 4-0 UNI spurt which extended the advantage to 23-16. The Panthers hit .256 in the opening set and took the first stanza 25-20.
The second set was similar with Bradley owning an early lead and UNI using a late spurt. A Turner kill pulled the Braves within a point at 17-16, but back-to-back UNI kills made it 19-16 in favor of the Panthers. Northern Iowa followed one of its own service errors with five consecutive points. Bradley fell 25-18 in the second set, despite five kills on just eight swings from Turner.
Bradley jumped out to an early 6-3 lead in the third set to force a Northern Iowa timeout and later held a 14-11 advantage. The Braves led 16-14 when UNI made a decisive 6-0 run, which featured three kills and a block as the Panthers grabbed a 20-16 edge.
Haslag ended the UNI run with a kill, but Piper Thomas had two kills down the stretch as she helped power the Panthers to a 25-19 win to complete the sweep. Thomas had four kills and three blocks in the third set.
Kayla Haneline and Bri Weber led Northern Iowa with 10 kills each, while two other players added eight kills. Weber also had a match-high 17 digs for the Panthers.
Bradley returns to action Friday, taking on Southern Illinois in a 7 p.m. match in Carbondale, Ill.
