Game Recap: Volleyball |
PEORIA, Ill. -- Illinois State hit .382 as a team and collected 11 blocks to sweep Bradley 25-13, 25-20, 25-19 Friday at Renaissance Coliseum in the final matchup of 2016 in the annual I-74 rivalry.

Junior Jamie Livaudais (Fenton, Mo./Rockwood Summit) paced Bradley in kills for the second consecutive outing, finishing with a team-best nine kills as she moved into 35th in career kills on The Hilltop.  Senior Kelsey Cave (Solon, Iowa/Solon) added seven kills, while sophomore Erica Haslag (Jefferson City, Mo./Helias Catholic) collected six kills in two sets of action to help lead the Braves.

Illinois State got off to a hot start, tallying the first 10 points of the contest.  The Redbirds hit a blistering .378 in the opening set and went on to take the frame 25-13 behind four kills on six swings from Ella Francis.

Bradley stayed close throughout the second set, despite Illinois State hitting .455 in the stanza.  After trailing by as many four points the Braves batted back to pull within one at 19-18 on one of Livaudais' six second-set kills.  A Rachel Jones (Champaign, Ill./Centennial) kill later in the set once again made it a one-point contest at 21-20, but Aly Dawson had a kill and block to spark a 4-0 run which gave Illinois State the second set 25-20.

Like the second set, Bradley trailed as many as four in the third before cutting the deficit to one (19-18) on back-to-back kills by Haslag.  The Redbirds answered with consecutive Francis kills and she and Jaelyn Keene had back-to-back blocks to quickly extend the ISU lead to five (23-18).  Haslag stopped the run with a kill, but kills by Dawson and Keene closed out a 25-19 win for Illinois State as the Redbirds completed the sweep.

Sophomore Abby Ihrke (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) had a team-best 13 digs in the loss to help lead the Braves.

Dawson led Illinois State with 12 kills, while Lexi Varge was also in double figures with 11 kills.  Francis hit .600 for the night and collected nine kills to help lead the Redbirds' offense.

Bradley closes out a two-match home stand Saturday with a 7 p.m. matchup against Indiana State at Renaissance Coliseum.
