PEORIA, Ill. -- Junior runner Michael Ward (Cardiff, South Wales/Llanishen) has been named the Bradley COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week after helping lead the Bradley men's cross country team to a second straight Valley championship Saturday in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Ward paced the Braves to the lowest point total (24) at the MVC Championship since Southern Illinois in 1982 and the largest margin of victory since 2013.  He was second in the field with an 8K time of 24:38.4 as he posted the best individual finish at the MVC Championship by a Bradley runner since Rod Collins won the individual crown in 1965.  A two-time All-MVC performer in cross country, Ward was one of five Braves in the top eight in the field.  A biochemistry major, Ward owns a 3.76 cumulative grade point average.

Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week.  The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.

Ward and the Bradley men's cross country team are back in action Friday, Nov. 11 at the NCAA Midwest Regional in Iowa City, Iowa.
