Game Recap: Men's Basketball |
Estero, Fla. – The Bradley men's basketball team scored the final 12 points of the game and used a 45-26 advantage in the second half to erase an 11-point halftime deficit and earn a 70-62 victory on Tuesday at the Gulf Coast Showcase. With the win, the Braves improve to 3-2 on the season, while the Terriers drop to 1-3.

Junior JoJo McGlaston led the Braves with 14 points in the winning effort, while sophomore Antoine Pittman and freshman Darrell Brown each added 11 points apiece.

Freshman Koch Bar just missed his first career double-double by recoding nine points to go with a season-best 10 rebounds. Sophomore Luuk van Bree also added eight points and eight rebounds, knocking down two huge 3-pointers in the closing minutes.

A slow start to the game put the Braves in an early hole. Bradley missed its first five shots of the contest and committed seven turnovers, allowing Wofford to build a 9-2 advantage before the Braves knocked down their first field goal 6:57 into the game. Bradley pulled as close as one point, 11-10, before Wofford slowly started to stretch its advantage and eventually finished the half with a 36-25 lead.

The Braves made 33.3 percent of their first-half shots (8-of-24) and committed 10 turnovers, while Wofford converted 39.3 percent of its chances with Bradley forcing eight Terriers miscues.

Bradley came out a new team in the second stanza and cut into its deficit with four points in 45 seconds to open the half. Overall, after scoring 25 points in the opening 20 minutes, Bradley tallied 13 in the first 3:24 of the second half to pull within four, 42-38.

The Wofford lead then hovered between four and eight points until the Braves made their run. With the Terriers ahead, 50-42, Bradley took control with a 12-1 stretch to grab the advantage, 54-51. Brown's 3-pointer with 9:26 remaining gave Bradley its first lead of the day and set up an exciting final stretch of basketball for the second-straight day.

After the schools traded leads, a mini 5-0 run by Wofford put the Terriers ahead, 62-58, with 3:35 left in the game. However, the Braves locked down on the defensive side and did not allow a single point the remainder of the contest, while van Bree knocked down 3-pointers on consecutive possessions to give Bradley a lead it would not relinquish, 64-62, with 2:28 remaining. After two empty trips by the Terriers, Bradley drained the clock by grabbing two offensive rebounds in a possession that started with 1:34 left. The extra opportunities forced Wofford to foul, where Brown knocked down two free throws for a four-point lead before McGlaston and sophomore Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye sealed the victory with dunks on transition for the 70-62 final score.

The Braves shot 50.0 percent in the second half (and committed only three turnovers) to finish the game with a 42.6 percent overall day from the field. The Bradley defense also held Wofford to just 29.6 percent in the second 20 minutes of play, while winning both the rebounding (40-36) and turnover battles (14-13).

Fletcher Magee led the Terriers with 15 points, while Ryan Sawvell tallied 10 points and nine rebounds.

Bradley now plays the winner of the tournament's second game of the day, Kent State vs. George Mason, in Wednesday's fifth-place contest. First tip at Germain Arena is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. CT.

Game Notes: Bradley overcame a double-digit deficit for the first time since defeating Evansville on Feb. 7, 2015 after trailing by 14 at the break … McGlaston has scored at least 10 points in all five games, becoming the first Brave with double-digits in each of the first five games of the year since Daniel Ruffin during the 2007-08 season … The Braves made a season-best 70.4 percent of their free-throw attempts (19-of-27) … Bradley's victory was its first during a regular-season tournament away from Peoria since defeating Southern Cal, 64-63, at the 2010 Hall of Fame Tipoff … Bradley now leads the series with Wofford, 2-1, with all three games being played on Nov. 22 (2009, 2011 and 2016).
