Darrell Brown Sweeps Player of the Week Honors

After putting together one of the best performances by a freshman in Bradley men's basketball history, rookie Darrell Brown (Memphis, Tenn.) was honored as Missouri Valley Conference Co-Player and Co-Newcomer of the Week on Monday.

Brown led the Braves with 20.0 points per game at the 2016 Gulf Coast Showcase in Estero, Florida, last week, connecting on 56.8 percent of his shots with a 53.3 percent mark beyond the 3-point line. Highlighting his standout week, Brown poured in a BU freshman record with 34 points against Hofstra on Monday. He made 13-of-18 shots and 5-of-7 3-point attempts to top the school's previous freshman standard of 31, set by Deon Jackson in 1993, and to become the first Valley rookie with 30 points in a game since Doug McDermott during the 2010-11 campaign.

The Memphis, Tennessee, native concluded the tournament with 11 points in a victory against Wofford in addition to 15 points and four assists versus George Mason.

Brown leads the Braves with 15.5 points per game during the 2016-17 campaign. He is the seventh-highest scoring player in the MVC and is the top scoring rookie by 6.8 points per game. Overall, the freshman is shooting 50.8 percent from the floor with a 50.0 percent mark from 3-point range.

Brown is the fourth freshman in Bradley basketball history to collect Player of the Week accolades. He joins Roger Phegley during the 1974-75 season, Deon Jackson in 1992-93 and Danny Granger in 2001-02. Brown shared the weekly accolades with junior transfer Aundre Jackson of Loyola, who averaged 18.5 points and 6.0 rebounds last week.

Brown the Braves are back in action on Tuesday with a road contest against Eastern Illinois with first tip scheduled for 7 p.m.
