Game Recap: Men's Basketball |
The Bradley men's basketball team dominated on both the offensive and defensive ends to cruise to an 83-48 victory against Chicago State at Carver Arena on Saturday night. The win evens the Braves record at 5-5, while the Cougars fall to 3-5 on the season.

Five players scored in double figures to lead the Braves to the victory. Sophomore Luuk van Bree registered a season-best 15 points, making 6-of-9 shots and 3-of-5 3-pointers, while Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye matched his classmate to lead the team in points.

Freshman Darrell Brown chipped in 14 points to go with a team-best five assists, while sophomore Antoine Pittman and freshman Jayden Hodgson each scored 10 – a career-best total for Hodgson during his rookie campaign.

Junior Donte Thomas also added eight points and a team-best nine rebounds in his first start of the season.

The Braves won the opening tip and freshman Nate Kennell drained a three on the first possession as Bradley never looked back. Defense keyed the strong start for BU as the Braves held the Cougars to just one basket on their first 13 attempts to build a 10-2 advantage. Chicago State was able to pull within three, 10-7, but Bradley quickly stretched its lead to double digits with a 10-2 run for a 20-9 lead. Chicago State would never get any closer than eight points the rest of the way as the Braves headed into the intermission with a 31-19 edge.

Bradley shot 43.5 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes but it was the team's defense that allowed the Braves to earn the halftime lead as they held the Cougars to just 21.4 percent shooting and a 1-of-12 mark from beyond the 3-point line.

In the second stanza, the Braves maintained their double-digit advantage for most of the half and then sealed their fifth victory of the season with a dominating 20-0 run to put the game out of reach. With a 56-42 lead and 8:35 left, the Braves scored on 10 of their next 11 possessions, while forcing the Cougars to miss eight-straight shots and commit three turnovers, building a 76-42 lead with 4:05 remaining in the game. The Braves would then close out the 35-point victory, 83-48, to move to .500 on the season.

Bradley finished the game converting 52.2 percent of its field goals, while knocking down 11-of-22 3-point attempts. The Braves also held the Cougars to just 27.1 percent shooting with a 7-of-31 mark from beyond the arc.

The Braves are off until next Friday when they host UT-Arlington at Carver Arena. First tip is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Game Notes: The 35-point victory is the largest since defeating Eureka, 80-38, on Dec. 18, 2014 and biggest over a Division I school since a 77-42 win against Mississippi Valley State on Dec. 19, 2012 … The last time the Braves beat a Division I school by more than 35 points was an 88-49 win against Wright State on Dec. 5, 2006 … Chicago State's 48 points are the fewest by a Bradley opponent since a 63-44 win versus Southern Illinois on January 3, 2015 … Chicago State's 27.1 percent shooting is the lowest versus the Braves since Loyola made just 26.5 percent of its shots on Feb. 22, 2014 … With their fifth victory of the season, the Braves matched their season win total from last year in 22 fewer games played overall … Bradley won its fifth game last year on Feb. 20 … The Braves have won all 15 meetings with the Cougars.
