Game Recap: Men's Basketball |
PEORIA, IL - The Bradley men's basketball team tested one of the nation's hottest teams, UT Arlington, but the Mavericks escaped Carver Arena with a victory in the end, 56-51. The Braves fall to 5-6 on the season, while UTA won its eighth-straight contest to improve to 9-3.

Sophomore Antoine Pittman led BU with a season-best 14 points, knocking down 6-of-11 field goals. Freshman Jayden Hodgson chipped in eight points, while sophomore Callum Barker added six points and five rebounds.

Juniors JoJo McGlaston and Donte Thomas both collected a team-best seven rebounds for the Braves.

The Braves started the contest slow but it didn't take long for the team to rebound and grab the lead. UT Arlington scored the game's first 12 points and held BU without a point for the first 6:36. However, trailing 15-2, Bradley responded with a 14-0 run in a 3:38 span to grab a 16-15 advantage.

The Mavs would wrestle the lead back, though, and would eventually take a 31-24 advantage into the halftime break.

The UTA lead would reach eight points in the second stanza, 36-28, but Bradley pulled to within one, 40-39, after an 11-4 stretch – capped by two put-back baskets by Barker with just under nine minutes remaining in regulation. The game would remain a one-possession contest until UTA completed a 3-point play followed by a 3-pointer to stretch a 44-42 lead to eight, 50-42, with 4:16 left.

Bradley would cut its deficit to three on multiple occasions but a Kevin Hervey basket with 14 ticks left secured the five-point victory for the Mavs.

The Braves held UTA to its season-low in points on the night, holding the Mavs to 33.3 percent shooting with a 6-of-26 mark beyond the arc. Bradley, however, was only was able to make a slightly better 33.9 percent of its shots and made just 4-of-24 3-point attempts.

Hervey finished the contest with game highs of 15 points and 14 rebounds for UT Arlington.

The Braves now hit the road for their final non-conference road trip of the season, opening with Ole Miss on Monday night. The schools are set to meet at 8 p.m. with the game shown live on SEC Network.

Game Notes: UT Arlington's previous season low in points was during a 65-51 victory at No. 12 Saint Mary's … The Mavs also entered the contest making 49.0 percent of their shots and made at least 39 percent of their baskets in each of their first 11 games … After dropping the first three games in the series, UT Arlington has won its last four contests against Bradley but the Braves turned a 36-point loss from last season into just a five-point defeat this year … Pittman is averaging 9.85 points per game in his lasts seven contests after opening the year posting 4.25 points during the first four contests … Bradley finished its home non-conference schedule with a 3-3 mark.
