Game Recap: Women's Basketball |
MACOMB, Ill. – Freshman Chelsea Brackmann (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) returned to the lineup to score a season-high 19 points off the bench and helped the Bradley reserves collect 45 points, but Western Illinois hit 10 three-pointers and topped the Braves 91-77 Monday at Western Hall.

Two Bradley reserves scored in double figures and the bench combined for 45 points on 16-for-28 shooting, 11 boards, seven assists, four steals and two blocks against the Leathernecks behind a season-best 19 points from Brackmann, who was 7-for-10 from the field with a pair of blocks.  Brackmann sat out of Friday's home contest against Northern Illinois due to injury.

Junior Madison Dellamuth (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Prairie) added 14 points of her own to join Brackmann in double figures, while freshman Alona Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Riverside) turned in season highs of nine points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals in 35 minutes off the bench.   Sophomore Vanessa Markert (Mt. Sterling, Ill./Brown County) collected 12 of her 17 points in the second half and junior Anneke Schlueter (Ulm, Germany/Max-Weber-Schule) netted seven of her 10 points in the fourth quarter.

Western Illinois (6-3 overall) raced out to a 10-1 lead and Bradley (2-6 overall) trailed 22-16 after the opening 10 minutes.  The Braves hung with Western Illinois early in the second and pulled within three points (32-29) on a Dellamuth three-pointer with 4:30 to play in the period.

The Leathernecks answered with a 15-3 run over the next 3:30, however, as Western Illinois built a 44-32 lead and outscored the Braves 16-5 to close the half with a 48-34 advantage.

Western Illinois extended the lead to as many as 20 points in the closing moments of the third quarter and led 69-49 early in the fourth before a Bradley push.  Dellamuth sparked an 8-0 Bradley run midway through the fourth with a three-pointer and added a basket later on.  A Brackmann three capped the spurt which cut a 16-point Western Illinois lead in half at 81-73 with 4:29 left.

Bradley made 9-of-11 shots to open the fourth, but missed its next two shots and Morgan Blumer took over for Western Illinois scoring the final 10 points of the game for the Leathernecks over the final three minutes.  Blumer had a layup and followed a Bradley miss with a three-point play to push the lead back to 13 points (86-73).  After a Markert jumper with 2:21 on the clock, Blumer had another three-point play nearing the one-minute mark as she helped WIU close out the 91-77 victory.

Bradley shot 50.9 percent from the field and was 8-for-19 from three-point range.  Western Illinois made 10 three-pointers, however, and held a 45-28 rebounding advantage.

Emily Clemens led the Leathernecks with 23 points, eight assists and five steals, while Blumer had 22 points of her own.  Michelle Farrow added 12 points off the bench and Taylor Higginbotham joined the trio in double figures with 10 points.  The Leathernecks turned 18 Bradley turnovers in 29 points and WIU owned a 21-6 edge in second chance points.

Bradley will have a break for finals before returning to action Saturday, Dec. 17 at Western Michigan.
