Braves Host Chicago State on Saturday Night

The Bradley men's basketball team returns home to face in-state foe Chicago State on Saturday night. The Braves host the Cougars at 8 p.m. at Carver Arena with the game broadcast live on ESPN3.
 

PROMOTIONS
• During halftime of Saturday's game, the Braves will celebrate former coach Joe Stowell's 90th birthday. Student-athletes in attendance that played for Coach Stowell will be introduced as part of the halftime celebration.
• Every home game also includes Kaboom!'s Korner in the Great Hall lobby. Saturday's contest features the Basketball Jam Bounce House and face painting by Wild Style Design Company.
 

COACH STOWELL NUMBERS
• Joe Stowell served as head coach of the Braves from 1965 to 1978.
• Stowell also played for the Braves from 1947 to 1950 and was part of the 1949-50 team that advanced to the NCAA Championship game. He then served as the program's assistant coach and freshman head coach from 1956 to 1965.
• During his tenure as varsity head coach, Stowell posted a record of 197-147. He is the second-winningest coach in program history.
 

ABOUT THE BRAVES
• Bradley has lost its last two games to fall under .500 for the first time this season at 4-5.
• The Braves also own a 2-2 mark at Carver Arena this season.
• Freshman Darrell Brown leads the team with 13.1 points per game, making 45.8 percent of his shots and 48.5 percent of his 3-point attempts.
• Junior JoJo McGlaston ranks second on the team with 10.9 points per game, shooting 50.0 percent from the field.
• Freshman Koch Bar leads the Braves with 6.4 rebounds per game and 1.78 blocks per contest.
• As a team, the Braves are shooting 45.5 percent from the floor and 36.5 percent from 3-point range.
 

SERIES HISTORY
• The Braves have won all 14 games with the Cougars dating back to the schools' first meeting in 1971.
• Bradley has defeated Chicago State more times without a loss than any other team it has played in its history.
• The schools last met during the 2013-14 campaign with BU posting a 77-64 win at Carver Arena.
• Of the schools' 14 meetings, 12 have been played in Peoria.
 

BRAVES VERSUS THE WAC
• Bradley is 30-15 all-time against current members of the WAC.
• Of the Braves' 45 meetings with the WAC, 39 are either against Chicago State or former MVC member New Mexico State (13-12).
 

ABOUT THE COUGARS
• Chicago State is 3-4 during the 2016-17 season, winning its most recent contest at Western Illinois last Saturday, 83-76, in overtime.
• The win over the Leathernecks marked the team's first against a Division I opponent this year.
• Fred Sims, Jr. leads three Cougars in double-figures scoring with 21.1 points per game.
• Trayvon Palmer is right behind with 13.3 points to go with a CSU-leading 7.3 rebounds per game, while Clemmye Owens V is the third with 12.7 points per game.
• Overall, the Cougars are averaging 75.9 points per game with a 44.7 shooting percentage, while allowing 83.0 points on the defensive end.
 

ON THIS DATE
Record on Dec. 10: 14-6
Dec. 10 Highlight: On its way to its most wins in school history at the time, Bradley opened the 1938-39 season with a dominating 71-26 victory against Louisville. The Braves would win the IIAC that year with a perfect 6-0 record before advancing to the NIT for the second-straight season.
 

MOST IMPROVED OFFENSE
• The Bradley offense ranks as one of the most improved units in the country this season.
• BU is averaging 72.0 points per game this year – an improvement of 16.0 points from last season's total of 56.0 points per game.
• Bradley's 16.0 point improvement from last year ranks as the seventh-best nationally this season.
• The Braves also shooting at 45.5 percent clip this year – an increase of 7.6 percent. The team's 7.6 percent increase ranks as the eighth-best mark in the country.
• In fact, Bradley has improved its national rank in field goal percentage by more than 200 spots (345 to 135).
 

BEST SINCE...
• Not only are the Braves showing a tremendous one-year improvement on the offensive end, but they are also posting their best numbers in years.
• Bradley is averaging more than 70 points per game for the first time in nine years. The Braves last hit the mark when they posted a scoring offense of 73.8 during the 2007-08 season.
• BU is also making at least 45.0 percent of its shots for the first time in 10 seasons. Bradley's 45.7 field goal percentage is its highest since posting a 45.9 percent mark in 2006-07.
• The Braves' current 3-point percentage of 36.5 is also the team's highest since a 37.4 mark during the 2007-08 campaign.
