Box Score KENNESAW, Ga. – Bradley slugged three home runs and junior Kelly Kapp (Freeburg, Ill./Gibault Catholic) went 3-for-4 with a run and stolen base to help the Braves to a 9-8 victory against Bowling Green Sunday morning at the Phyllis Rafter Memorial.
Kapp continued her hot hitting, collecting her fifth consecutive hit to leadoff the game and gave Bradley (3-6 overall) an early 1-0 lead when she scored on the first of two doubles by senior Kendall Duffy (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy). Senior Alyson Clemente (Murrieta, Calif./Murrieta Valley) made it a 3-0 lead later in the inning with a two-run homer to left field. The home run was Clemente's 14th career dinger and moved her into a tie for fourth in school history.
Bowling Green (6-2 overall) scored six runs on just three hits in the bottom of the second to go in front 6-3. A bases loaded single by Braiden Dillow drove in the first run of the frame and the Falcons added runs on a walk and fielder's choice to tie the game at 3-3. A sacrifice fly led to another run and Chelsea Raker plated another run with a single. A wild pitch allowed the sixth run of the inning to come home and capped the inning.
Duffy led off the top of the third with her second double of the contest and senior Rachel Huggins (Mt. Zion./Mt. Zion) ripped a two-out, two-run homer to pull Bradley within one run at 6-5.
In the fourth, freshman Stephanie Campos (Bloomingdale, Ill./Glenbard North) drew a one-out walk and Kapp followed with another infield single. Sophomore Maria Schroeder (Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich) tied the game at 6-6 with a RBI single to left.
A Bowling Green error in the fifth helped Bradley grab a 7-6 lead. Huggins walked to open the inning and pinch runner Elizabeth Leonard (Olathe, Kan./Olathe East) advanced to second on a groundout. After a dropped foul ball, sophomore Taylor Morales (Spokane, Wash./University) drove in Leonard with the go-ahead run on a single.
Bradley added a pair of important insurance runs in the top of the seventh. Clemente led off with a double and junior Caitlyn McCarron (Dallas, Ore./Dallas) gave the Braves a 9-6 lead with a two-run homer to center.
Bowling Green struck for two runs in the bottom of the seventh and left the tying and winning runs on base to end the game. The Flacons had a runner at third after a single, stolen base and groundout. Morgan Evangelista made it a one-run game with a home run to left, pulling the Falcons within a run at 9-8.
Junior Jaelen Hull (Clifton, Ill./Bishop McNamara) took over in the circle for the Braves with the first hitter she faced reaching on an error. A strikeout and walk put runners at first and second with two outs when Hull struck out pinch hitter Kiley Sosby to earn her second save of the year.
Freshman Megan Mahaffy (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake Central) earned the victory for Bradley, tossing 4.2 innings out of the bullpen. Kapp was 3-for-4 with a run and stolen base in her eighth multi-hit game of the season to help the Braves tally 12 hits.
