PEORIA, IL - Bradley sophomore Alejandra de Lasa won at both doubles and singles, leading Bradley (7-4) to a 7-0 sweep against Western Illinois (2-5) in women's tennis action Friday afternoon at the Clubs at River City North.
Facing a Leathernecks squad that fielded only five players, Bradley's only blemish was a 6-3 loss at No. 2 singles. The Braves secured the doubles point, however, when de Lasa and junior Ashley Thai cruised to a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles.
The first-year transfer from VCU added a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles as the only Bradley player to play both singles and doubles Friday.
Thai was credited a default win at No. 6 singles to give Bradley a 2-0 lead and freshman Malini Wijesinghe pushed the advantage to 3-0 with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles. Sophomore Alexa Brandt clinched the match when she completed a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles for a 4-0 team lead.
Playing at No. 1 singles, junior Ariel Dechter rallied from a 5-2 deficit in the first set to pull out a first-set tie-breaker, 7-6 (5), then completed the sweep with a 6-3 decision in the second set.
Friday's match was Bradley's lone home dual during a 10-match stretch that will extend through the first week of April. The Braves will visit Iowa for a 1 p.m. dual Saturday afternoon.
