RIO VERDE, Ariz. – Senior Danielle Lemek (Doniphan, Neb./Doniphan-Trumbull) shot a one-under 71 to tie for low-round honors Friday and the Bradley women's golf team is tied with Toledo atop the team standings after one round of play at the 14th annual Rio Verde Intercollegiate.
Lemek carded her 21st consecutive sub-80 round and her 100th career round in the 70's or better with a one-under 71 Friday at the par-72 Rio Verde Country Club as she finished the day in a three-way tie for the individual lead with Hanna Lee of Xavier and Wichita State's Gavrilla Arya.
The Braves shot 298 as a team to tie for the 15th lowest round in program history and will enter Saturday's second round tied with Toledo for top team honors. The pair only hold a one shot lead on third-place Northern Arizona and 12 other teams are within nine shots after 18 holes.
In addition to Lemek's school record 20th career round of 71 or better, sophomore Grace Henderson (Peachtree Corners, Ga./Blessed Trinity) fired a career-best 72 to close Friday's action one shot off the lead in a tie for fourth.
Fellow sophomore Ally Scaccia (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect) is tied for 40th after a first-round 77 and freshman Chloe Horton (Coral Gables, Fla./Ransom Everglades) shot a 78 to close the day tied for 52nd. Senior Jenna Roadley (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Sturgeon Heights) completed the team scoring for Bradley with an opening round 81 and is tied for 77th overall.
Bradley will take a two-shot lead over Wichita State and Eastern Michigan, which are tied for fourth at 300, into Saturday's second round and the Braves are three shots better than sixth-place Ohio (301). UMKC and Akron are tied for seventh in the 18-team field at 302, with Arkansas State following in ninth (304). Xavier rounds out the top 10 at 305.
Saturday's second round of the Rio Verde Intercollegiate is slated to tee off at 9:30 a.m. (CST).
