Box Score Irish Alamo Classic
Texas Southern 9, Bradley 7
SAN ANTONIO, TX - Sydney Daley put Texas Southern ahead for good with a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning, lifting the Tigers (3-4) to a 9-7 victory in the final round of the Irish Alamo Classic Sunday afternoon at Incarnate Word's Sullivan Field.
Bradley (3-4) built a 5-0 lead through two innings, only to see Texas Southern take a 6-5 lead with five runs in the fourth and the go-ahead score in the fifth. Bradley reclaimed the lead, 7-6, on a pair of bases-loaded singles by Tyler Leffler and Paul Solka in the sixth, but stranding 12 base runners in the game proved costly.
Solka finished the day 3-for-5, while Leffler drove in three. The bottom three hitters in the Texas Southern order combined to go 4-for-8 with four walks, four runs scored and five RBI's.
The Braves used 15 offensive players Sunday and got hits from nine different players, but each of Sunday's four pitchers allowed at least one run. Jacob Hurst (0-1) suffered the loss by allowing two runs on two hits and one walk with one strikeout in 2.1 innings.
Bradley will return to action Friday, opening a 3-game series at McNeese State. Last season, Bradley pitching blanked the Cowboys in all three games of the series in Lake Charles, LA, setting the tone for the team's breakthrough season.
