INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Bradley sophomore Alejandra de Lasa rallied from a first-set loss and pulled away from a 3-3 tie midway through her third set at No. 2 singles to earn the deciding point for the Braves (3-2) in a 4-3 win at IUPUI (0-7) Saturday morning at West Indy Racquet Club.
Bradley built a quick 3-0 lead by taking 2-of-3 doubles matches and the first two singles matches to finish. Ariel Dechter teamed with Irinka Toidze for a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles, then cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles. Similarly, freshman Malini Wijesinghe teamed with Alexa Brandt for a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles and swept to a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles.
IUPUI fought back into the match, however, by earning straight-sets wins at Nos. 3, 4 and 5 singles. That left the deciding point up to de Lasa and IUPUI's Sara Sherif at No. 2 singles. Sherif rolled to a 6-1 win in the opening set, but de Lasa fought back for a 6-3 win in the second set. The players battled to a 3-3 tie in the deciding third set, before de Lasa reeled off the final three games to pick up her second win of the dual match season and send the Braves to third third consecutive victory.
Bradley will shoot for a fourth straight win this afternoon by facing Butler in a 1 p.m. (CST) dual at the Butler Bubble.
