Men?s Golf Third After Day One At Carlton Oaks

Bushong Ties For Second; Braves 15th At Bob Sitton Invite

DALLAS, Texas – Freshman Drake Bushong (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) challenged for individual medalist honors, tying for second, and the Bradley men's golf team finished 15th at Bob Sitton Invitational Thursday to wrap up the Braves' spring break trip to the Lone Star State.

Bushong was in contention throughout Thursday's final round, starting the day tied for second and finished the 54-hole tournament one-shot off the lead in a tie for second at 215.  A two-over par 73 at the par-71 TPC Four Seasons, which is home to the PGA's Byron Nelson, helped Bushong finish one shot behind Cody Burrows of Oral Roberts for top individual honors. 

The top-10 finish was the fifth in seven tournaments for Bushong, who carded his 21st consecutive sub-80 round. 

For the second straight day, senior Lyle Burns (Mahomet, Ill./Seymour/Parkland) turned in the low-round of the day for the Braves with a one-over 72 Thursday.  Burns finished at 224 in a tie for 28th, three shots out of the top 20. 

Sophomore Matthew Specht (Munster, Ind./Munster) fired a 77 on the final day of play to tie for 63rd at 233, while junior Bobby Jacobs (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) finished out the tournament with an 84 to tie for 92nd at 245.  Senior Garrett Cox (Mahomet, Ill./Seymour) shot an 88 Thursday to complete the team scoring for the Braves and tie for 98th overall (251). 

Bradley shot 306 Thursday to slip from 14th into 15th in the final team standings.  Long Beach State claimed the team title at 15-over 867 with tournament co-host Stephen F. Austin following in second at 878.  Central Arkansas was third overall at 884, with Wyoming (4th – 887) and Oral Roberts (5th – 890) rounding out the top five. 

UT-Arlington took sixth in the 17-team field at 891 to edge seventh-place Lamar (892) and eighth-place Incarnate Word (894).  Abilene Christian was two shots ahead of 10th-place Missouri State (898) in ninth at 896 and 11 shots better than 11th-place Houston Baptist (907).  Rutgers finished 12th at 909, three shots better than 13th-place Texas-Rio Grande Valley (912) and four shots ahead of 14th-place Northern Iowa (913).  Bradley was two shots back of the Panthers in 15th at 915, while North Dakota State (16th – 928) and Fairleigh Dickinson (17th – 952) completed the field, respectively.

The Braves will play at the I-74 Challenge in Normal, Ill., Saturday, March 26.
