PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior pitcher Cameron Roegner (Beloit, Wis./Beloit Memorial) has been named the Bradley COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week after earning a complete game victory against 16th-ranked Missouri State Saturday.
Roegner shut down a prolific Missouri State attack, tossing a 3-hitter in his first career complete game, an effort highlighted by a career-best seven strikeouts and 10 popouts. He was perfect for the first 4.1 innings and got out of a bases loaded jam in the fifth to go on to retire 11 of the next 12 hitters he faced. A ninth-inning solo home run spoiled his shutout bid, but he got a strike out and line out to close out the win. A finance major, Roegner owns a 3.14 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Roegner and the Bradley baseball team return to action this afternoon, playing a 3 p.m. game at Northwestern.
