Box Score at Bradley 9, Robert Morris-Peoria 0
PEORIA, IL - Seven Bradley pitchers combined for the team's first shutout of the season and freshman CF Andy Shadid homered for a fourth consecutive game, leading the Braves (18-15) to a 9-0 victory against Robert Morris-Peoria (14-16) Wednesday night at Dozer Park.
The seven Bradley pitchers combined on a six-hitter for the team's first shutout since a 4-0 win against Western Illinois April 22, 2015. The evening's fourth hurler, freshman RHP Mitch Janssen (W, 1-1) was credited with the win by retiring all six batters he faced, three by strikeous. The staff combined to fan 10 Eagles hitters.
Catcher Zach Fairchild was 2-for-2 and he doubled and scored the game's first run in the third inning. Freshman DH Luke Mangieri (2-4) also banged out two hits for the Braves. Shadid hit a sacrifice fly for the first run in Bradley's 3-run fourth inning, then led off the sixth with a blast to left field for his team-leading seventh home run of the season.
Reserve catcher Cord Perea-Griffeth belted his first career home run, a towering, 3-run shot to left field in the seventh to complete the game's scoring. Perea-Griffeth's home run also activated a season-long Bradley Baseball promotion with Chick-fil-A on Sterling Avenue, allowing fans to receive a free Original Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich with any purchase the day after the Braves score in the seventh inning of a home game. The offer is good only at the Sterling Avenue Chick-fil-A restaurant in Peoria.
Bradley will resume its 5-game home stand this weekend by hosting #17 Dallas Baptist in a 3-game series at Dozer Park. The games are scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, 8 o'clock Saturday night for a nationally-televised game on ESPNU and Sunday afternoon at 1 o'clock. Both teams played in the 2015 NCAA Regionals, Bradley as the No. 2 seed in Louisville and Dallas Baptist as one of the tournament's eight national No. 1 seeds.
