Game Recap: Volleyball |
MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Sophomore Erica Haslag led an efficient Bradley offensive attack with a 14 kills as the Braves swept in-state opponent Western Illinois 25-19, 25-13, 25-12 Friday at the Pepsi Panther Invitational.

Haslag followed up a double-double performance (13 kills & 18 digs) earlier in the day in the season opener with 14 kills, two aces and five digs to help Bradley (1-1 overall) sweep the Leathernecks.  The Braves hit .362 as a team for the squad's most efficient offensive outing since August 25, 2012.  In addition, Bradley collected seven aces and 10 blocks in the victory.

With the Braves leading 13-10 in the first set, Bradley got consecutive kills by junior Taylor Thiele, sophomore Allison Turner and Haslag to quickly push the advantage to six (16-10).  The lead stood at five (23-18) when Haslag found the floor with another kill and she later capped a 25-19 opening set victory with her sixth kill of the frame.

After hitting .275 in the second set, Bradley heated up to .333 in the second set behind another six kills from Haslag.  Turner added four kills of her own in the second as the Braves used four blocks and forced seven Western Illinois attack errors to limit the Leathernecks to a -.071 hitting percentage in the stanza en route to a 25-13 victory.  A 7-0 Bradley run midway through the set gave the Braves control with Haslag notching a pair of kills and a block during the spurt.

Bradley had just one attack error in the third set and boasted a .571 hitting percentage in what proved to be the final set of the night.  A 12-3 run, which included three consecutive points by senior Kelsey Cave on a kill and back-to-back blocks gave the Braves a commanding 19-8 advantage.  Bradley went on to complete the sweep with a 25-12 win.

Cave added nine kills while hitting .500 and had six blocks to help pace the Braves.  Turner added eight kills and four blocks of her own, with Thiele leading the defensive efforts with a team-best 13 digs.

Bradley held Western Illinois to an .045 attack percentage.

The Braves close out play at the Pepsi Panther Invitational Saturday with an 11 a.m. matchup against Akron.
